You Are First Hackathon

At the height of the racial conflicts of 2020, we hacked on a solution to let people on Meta platforms feel a bit of kindness and compassion towards each other. With a focus on giving the floor to minorities, in just 72 hours we prototyped app updates that flipped the emoji skin color tone palette around. We worked with Meta leadership, engineers and designers, to deploy it to 500 million Meta accounts worldwide as a test (IG and FB mobile). The test lasted 3 months and showed a measurable positive correlation with increased engagement on our platforms, specifically around this subject. Given the nature and scope of the project, the results are confidential on this one.
